Ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.

     In developing countries, the number of children enrolled in primary school has reached 91 per cent. Globally, however, the number of out-of-school children still stands at 57 million.

     More than half of out-of-school children live in sub-Saharan Africa.

     It is estimated that 50 percent of out-of-school primary school children live in conflict-affected areas.

     617 million youth around the world lack basic math and literacy skills.

     By 2030, ensure that all girls and boys complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education leading to relevant and effective learning outcomes.

     By 2030, ensure that all girls and boys have access to quality early childhood development, care and pre-primary education so that they are ready for primary education.

     By 2030, ensure that all women and men have equal access to affordable and quality vocational and higher education, including university education.

     By 2030, substantially increase the number of young people and adults with in-demand skills, including technical and vocational skills, for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship.

     By 2030, eliminate gender disparities in education and ensure equal access to education and vocational training at all levels for vulnerable populations, including persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples and children in vulnerable situations.

     By 2030, ensure that all young people and a significant proportion of the adult population, both men and women, can read, write and count.

     By 2030, ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including through education on sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promoting a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship and value cultural diversity and the contribution of culture to sustainable development.

     Build and improve educational institutions that are child, disability and gender sensitive and provide a safe, violence-free and socially barrier-free and effective learning environment for all.

     By 2020, significantly increase the number of scholarships available worldwide to developing countries, especially least developed countries, small island developing States and African countries, for higher education, including vocational education and training in information and communication technology, technical, engineering and scientific programs, in developed countries and other developing countries.

     By 2030, significantly increase the number of qualified teachers, including through international cooperation for teacher training in developing countries, especially the least developed countries and small island developing States.
