Eradication of poverty

The universal eradication of poverty in all its forms.

Nowadays, 783 million people still live in extreme poverty.

In 2016, almost 10 percent of the world's workers and their families lived on less than $1.90 per person per day.

Globally, for every 100 men aged 25-34 living in extreme poverty, there is a group of 122 women.

The vast majority of people living on less than $1.90 a day are in two regions: South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.

High levels of poverty are often found in small, fragile countries suffering from conflict.

One in four children under the age of five is undersized.

In 2016, only 45 percent of the world's population had at least one social security benefit.

In 2017, economic losses from natural disasters, including hurricanes in the United States and the Caribbean, were estimated at US$300 billion.

By 2030, reduce the proportion of men, women and children of all ages living in all forms of poverty, according to national definitions, by at least half.

By 2030, ensure that all men and women, especially the poor and vulnerable, have equal rights to economic resources, as well as access to basic services, ownership and control of land and other forms of property, inheritance, natural resources, appropriate new technologies and financial resources services, including microfinance.

By 2030, build the resilience of the poor and those in vulnerable situations and reduce their exposure and vulnerability to climate-related extreme events and other economic, social and environmental shocks and disasters.

Ensure the mobilization of significant resources from a variety of sources, including through enhanced development cooperation, to provide developing countries, especially the least developed countries, with sufficient and predictable means to implement programs and strategies to eradicate poverty in all its forms.

Establish strong policy frameworks at the national, regional and international levels, based on pro-poor and gender-sensitive development strategies, to promote accelerated investment in poverty eradication.
