Such volunteer movement as working in archives is developing in Russia

The public movement "Victory Volunteers", the Russian state University for the Humanities and the Public chamber are beginning to develop the so — called" archive volunteering "- volunteer consultations on the restoration of genealogical data in the framework of the"My history" project.

Since March 11, archive specialists and volunteers have organized public receptions, held lectures and master classes on how to find documents about a relative in the archive and create a family tree, and demonstrated unique documents from archival funds.

Thus, the Central archive of Moscow held an open meeting of the public Council under the Main archive Department of the capital on the topic "Archival volunteerism", according to a press release distributed by the authors of the project.

"The My story project is being implemented in 73 regions. Working with archives is an important part of preserving family history. Many people do not realize that the archive is an open organization, do not understand where they go for information about their relative. Volunteers will help you answer these questions. In addition to consultations, volunteers will help archives digitize documents and compile electronic databases, "said Olga Amelchenkova, head of the all-Russian public movement" Victory Volunteers".

Events dedicated to the day of archives of Russia were held in other regions of the country. So, in the Yaroslavl region, volunteers began digitizing documents to the archive Fund of the region, in the Penza region opened an exhibition dedicated to famous families of the region, and a photo exhibition "This is my family" with pictures of the Soviet era. In the center for documentation of modern history of the Volgograd region, there was an educational platform for restoring family history. in Kabardino-Balkaria, a tour to the archive's storage facility and an exhibition of ancient documents were organized for researchers and volunteers.

Citizens will be able to ask for help in finding archival documents about their family on a single day of volunteer reception at the consulting points of the My story project, which will work once a month.
